Early in the morning, we departed Margate for Beachy Head, embarking on a lengthy journey. Upon our arrival, the weather initially appeared gloomy, but soon brightened as the sun emerged while descending from the parking spot by Cow Gap to initiate our stroll along the shoreline. The trail leading to Cow Gap can become quite slick following rainfall.
The walk from Cow Gap to the lighthouse typically spans about 2 hours, yet allowing extra time is prudent due to substantial fallen chalk fragments resembling small family cars. The terrain presents difficulties with slippery surfaces and unreliable phone signal. It’s recommended to wear appropriate footwear and go accompanied or share your whereabouts with others.
Before scheduling your walk, it’s essential to consult the tide schedule. For instance, if low tide is at noon, aim to depart Cow Gap by 9:00am at the latest to allow ample time for your stroll.
